Plot:  A veteran comes home from the Korean War to the mountains and takes over the family moonshining business. He has to battle big-city gangsters who are trying to take over the business and the police who are trying to put him in prison.
Rotten Tomatoes:   Robert Mitchum stars as a Korean war hero who returns to his hometown in Tennessee and takes over his family's bootleg moonshine business where he has to battle both the mob and federal agents. Not only did Mitchum star in the film, he wrote the story and the film's theme song; Robert's son Jim plays his younger brother in the film. Thunder Road is widely considered the best movie about moonshine bootleggers, and its climatic car chase is one of the finest ever captured on film.

Plot:  H.G. Well's classic novel is brought to life in this tale of alien invasion. The residents of a small town in California are excited when a flaming meteor lands in the hills. Their joy is tempered somewhat when they discover that it has passengers who are not very friendly. The movie itself is understood better when you consider that it was made at the height of the Cold War--just replace Martian with Russian....

Plot:  Robert Ryan and Brian Keith, vastly under-rated actors, take a B-potboiler and make it appear to actually be something more. Matt Baker, a ne'er-do-well adventurer, gets out of jail and skips/sails away on his boat without paying for the storage and repairs. Back in his hometown, he is hired by his old friend Jim Kimmerly, head of the Salmon fishermen who have formed a canning cooperative, and are battling against an organized gang that rob the fishing traps regularly. Matt gets into a jam and needs money, so he joins the raiders, although his friend Jim, unaware of his duplicity, keeps covering for him among the other fishermen. The two men are also vying for the favors of Nicky.

62% (1)  The Atomic City  85 min,  UNRATED,  [Thriller, Drama]  [Jerry Hopper]  [01 May 1952]
Ratings & Reviews:  IMDb Reviews: 62%,   External Reviews
Actors:  Gene Barry, Lydia Clarke, Michael Moore, Nancy Gates
Writer:  Sydney Boehm
External Links:  Wikipedia  Rotten Tomatoes  IMDb     Language:  English    Country:  USA
Plot:  At Los Alamos, New Mexico, the maximum-security "atomic city" of U.S. nuclear-weapons research, top atomic scientist Frank Addison has a normal, middle-American life with his wife and son...until the boy is kidnapped by enemy agents to extort H-bomb secrets. Result, a fast moving chase thriller with some parental soul-searching.
Rotten Tomatoes:   The city of the title is Los Alamos, where nuclear physicist Gene Barry lives and works. Terrorists kidnap Barry's son and demand that the physicist turn over the H-bomb formula. It's cat-and-mouse for a while, but when the FBI gets on the case, the criminals haven't got a chance. Outdated almost before its release, The Atomic City is still effective on a purely melodramatic level. There's a particularly tense climax played out along the mountain mesas surrounding Los Alamos. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
